with special guests Eric Slaughter, Rick Haydon and Greg Haynes
and the North County Big Band
One of St. Louis’ longest running big bands, the award-winning Jazz Edge Big Band pays tribute to legendary jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, with special guests Eric Slaughter, Rick Haydon and Greg Haynes. A staple at awards and recognition programs, fraternity and sorority events, community and social organization events, church events, fund raisers, school programs, weddings, receptions and more, The Jazz Edge Orchestra continues to provide entertainment, music history and education in performances for the underserved and those who cannot afford market rate musical events. The Jazz Edge Orchestra was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King State Celebration Commissioner’s 2015 Community Service Award for productive and persistent service in the St. Louis metropolitan area. In 2014,The Jazz Edge Inc. also created, promoted and directed an instrument and equipment drive which resulted in presenting 30 new and pre-owned musical instruments and equipment to the Normandy Middle School instrumental music program.
The evening will also feature a performance by The Sheldon’s North County Big Band. Led by Harvey Lockhart of Riverview Gardens High School, this collaborative big band is made up of some the most talented and dedicated students from several St. Louis area high schools, including Riverview Gardens, Normandy, Central Visual and Performing Arts, Hazelwood and University City. This year marks their third season of rehearsals and performances, with coaching provided by leading educators and musicians including Lockhart, Thomas Moore of Normandy Middle School and Delano Redman of East St. Louis Senior High.
