ARTIST TALK: KEHINDE WILEY (sold out)

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

Kehinde Wiley is known for his large-scale paintings of contemporary African American subjects that address the politics of race and power in art and gained recent international recognition as the first African American artist to paint an official portrait of a U.S. President; his image of President Obama was unveiled in February. In keeping with his established practice, Wiley invited people he encountered in neighborhoods in north St. Louis and Ferguson to pose for portraits that reference works in the Saint Louis Art Museum collection. Wiley will discuss his artistic practice and his exhibition at the Museum. This program is made possible by a grant from the Trio Foundation of St. Louis.
