JAZZ N' TONGUES: THE ART OF MUSIC & POETRY
The Saint Louis University Music Program in conjunction with Nu-Art Series present Jazz n’ Tongues: The Art of Music and Poetry. First up is internationally renowned trumpeter Eddie Henderson, local piano legend Ptah Williams, and celebrated poet and author Lyah Beth LeFlore.
Eddie Henderson received his first informal trumpet lesson at the age of 9 from Louis Armstrong, studied as a teenager at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and followed the advice of family friend Mile Davis to pursue a career in music.
Ptah Williams “makes the piano breathe and dance” and is known as one of the finest jazz pianists in St. Louis. He has performed national and international jazz festivals and played with greats Freddie Hubbard, George Benson and James Moody among others.
Leah Beth LeFlore is a best -selling author of adult and young adult fiction and has been featured in the New York Times, Essence, Ebony and Jet magazines to name a few. Additionally, she has multiple credits as a television producer.
The performance take place on Friday, October 26 at 8:00pm at the University Theatre in Xavier Hall, 3733 West Pine Mall on the SLU campus.
