About Brothers Lazaroff and Trying to Make It Home
Trying to Make It Home began as a different kind of experiment for Brothers Lazaroff. Rather than starting together in a room, the songs first took shape through exchanged demos and remote collaboration, with producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Golden building rhythmic foundations from drum programming, synthesizers, guitars, and percussion. From those electronic landscapes, the band opened the music outward — drawing on groove-driven dance music, Balkan and Mediterranean melodic traditions, American folk and roots, and the improvisational freedom that has long defined the Brothers Lazaroff sound.
The record runs on a single line pulled from the title track: "there's a window, there's a line." Moments when a path opens. Moments when limits become clear. The songs sit inside that tension — searching, not concluding — and reflect the strange terrain of the present moment: political and environmental uncertainty, the speed of technological change, the realization that ideas once confined to science fiction now shape everyday life.
The album was produced by Andrew Warshauer and Brothers Lazaroff. Basic tracking was produced by Sam Golden at Holiday Heart Studio in St. Louis. Drums, additional tracking, mixing, and mastering were handled by Jacob Detering at Red Pill Entertainment, also in St. Louis.
The record features Jeff Lazaroff (vocals, electric guitar) and David Lazaroff (vocals, electric guitar, pedal steel), with Teddy Brookins (bass), Mark Hochberg (violins), Freddy Spencer (drums), Chris Hansen (percussion), Joey Ferber (classical nylon string guitar), Antonio Foster (keyboards), David Goldenberg (mandolin), and Sam Golden (guitars, keyboards, percussion, auto-harp, accordion, drum programming).
Brothers Lazaroff has been building a wider touring footprint in recent years with flagship events like Hanukkah Hullabaloo and Laz Jazz Fest, and continues to anchor the St. Louis Americana, jazz, blues, soul, and country scenes from their home base.
