Direct from New York City, the legendary Ailey II, one of the most popular dance companies in the country, will rock St. Louis on Friday and Saturday, April 10 & 11, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center in an unforgettable weekend of world-class dance and iconic music.
The Ailey II presentation includes the St. Louis premiere of BERRY DREAMIN' — a new work commissioned by Dance St. Louis for its landmark 60th anniversary season. Choreographed by Chalvar Monteiro, a former member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, BERRY DREAMIN' is a nod to the music, life and impact of the “Father of Rock and Roll” Chuck Berry and a celebration of his birth 100 years ago.
In addition to the vibrant BERRY DREAMIN', audiences will be captivated by a program of breathtaking works—each one showcasing Ailey II’s unmatched artistry, powerful technique, and boundless energy.
The evening also includes Houston Thomas' DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, a high-powered work inspired by The Matrix film series and set to a score by Johannes Goldbach.
Anchoring the evening is Alvin Ailey's iconic masterpiece, REVELATIONS—one of the most widely seen modern dance works. Performed to African American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs and holy blues, the cultural treasure explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul.
