For Joan Mitchell, painting was a way of life and a way to keep living. Her enormous late canvases, buzzing with electric color and athletic brushstrokes, testify to the beauty of life and art, even amid inevitable loss. Celebrate the centennial of pioneering artist Joan Mitchell’s birth with a talk by art historian Katy Siegel examining two of Mitchell’s iconic works, Ici and Untitled 1992, which are on view at the Saint Louis Art Museum and Kemper Art Museum respectively.
Untitled 1992 is featured in the exhibition Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection at the Kemper Art Museum. After the talk, enjoy a reception at the Kemper Art Museum and view the exhibition from 3:30-4:30 pm. Roundtrip bus transportation will be available between museums.
